Finding parking in Torrevieja during summer can sometimes feel harder than finding a free sunbed on La Mata Beach. 🚗☀️ But the city has just approved a major project that could finally ease some of the traffic chaos.
Torrevieja City Council has officially approved plans to create four large park-and-ride parking areas across the city, adding a total of 3,937 new parking spaces on municipal land. The project comes with an investment of more than €3.6 million and aims to reduce congestion in some of the busiest areas of the city center.
Four New Parking Areas Across Torrevieja
The new parking facilities will be spread across four different locations:
Avenida de la Estación
- 255 parking spaces
- 12 accessible spaces
- Investment: €614,852
Avenida Ramón del Valle Inclán – Torreta Area
- 213 parking spaces
- 8 accessible spaces
- Investment: €549,569
Calle Juan Valera – CV-905
- 758 parking spaces
- 20 accessible spaces
- Investment: €1.2 million
Avenida Delfina Viudes – Antonio Soria Park
- 2,711 parking spaces
- 15 accessible spaces
- Largest parking area in the project
In total, the city will add 3,882 standard parking spaces and 55 adapted spaces for people with reduced mobility.

Why This Matters for Residents and Tourists
Anyone who has visited Torrevieja in July or August already knows the struggle:
- endless loops around the city center,
- double-parked cars,
- crowded beach areas,
- and traffic jams near shopping zones and events.
The new park-and-ride system is designed to absorb part of that pressure and make it easier to access the city without overwhelming central streets. According to the council, the goal is to improve mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and make parking easier for both locals and visitors.
The Antonio Soria area could become especially important during concerts, fairs, sporting events, and busy summer weekends, thanks to its huge capacity.
What Will the New Parking Areas Include?
The project is not simply about flattening empty land and painting white lines.
The works will include:
- ground preparation and paving,
- drainage systems,
- LED lighting towers,
- adapted access points,
- road markings and signage,
- electrical installations,
- and safety infrastructure.
The city says all four projects will be developed simultaneously, with an estimated construction period of around five months.
A Bigger Shift in Torrevieja’s Urban Planning
This is also part of a wider transformation happening in Torrevieja.
Over the last few years, the city has been investing heavily in:
- waterfront redevelopment,
- pedestrian-friendly zones,
- public spaces,
- mobility improvements,
- and tourism infrastructure.
The new parking network fits directly into that strategy. Instead of forcing more cars into already crowded streets near the promenade and beaches, the city hopes to create larger parking hubs around key access points.
With Torrevieja continuing to grow year after year, especially during peak tourist season, this project may become one of the most important mobility upgrades the city has seen in a long time.
Could This Finally Solve Torrevieja’s Parking Problems?
Probably not completely — let’s be realistic. 😄
During peak summer weeks, Torrevieja can feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of visitors, especially around the beaches, marina, markets, and nightlife areas.
But adding nearly 4,000 extra parking spaces is still a very significant step. If managed properly, these new facilities could dramatically reduce traffic pressure in some of the city’s most congested zones and make getting around far less stressful for everyone.
For locals, tourists, and even businesses, that could be very good news indeed.
